Portraits Imaginaire

Bid Starts at: 42 lakhs

by Pablo Picasso

Pablo Picasso’s Portraits Imaginaires (1969) is a suite of 29 lithographs created during the final years of his life, reflecting his ongoing artistic innovation. At nearly 90, Picasso embraced the cultural shifts of the 1960s, experimenting with recycled cardboard as canvases and producing portraits inspired by 17th-century figures. The works feature fantastical characters, including Shakespeare and Balzac, and were made in collaboration with lithographer Marcel Salinas, whom Picasso trusted enough to offer joint billing. This series encapsulates Picasso's artistic evolution, blending his mastery of color, cubism, and portraiture. The lithographs were printed in two runs, 250 each for France and the U.S., between 1969-1972.
