Balloon Swan Magenta
by Jeff Koons
For the creation of the sculpture by Jeff Koons Balloon Swan sculpture, the artist transforms a balloon into a majestic swan. The work, released in a limited edition of 999 pieces and provided with a certificate of authenticity, is made of reflective magenta porcelain and measures 21x24 cm.
Jeff Koons’ Balloon Swan sculpture is part of his Celebration series. By modelling balloons in the shape of Venus, dogs, swans, rabbits and monkeys, the artist celebrates the values of childhood and the colors of its parties. The small, limited-edition works were conceived following Christie's auction of the work by Jeff Koons Balloon Dog at the highest price in history for a living artist.
The original sculpture by Jeff Koons Balloon Swan is monumental, more than ten feet tall, made of mirror-polished stainless steel with a transparent colored coating in five unique colors: magenta, red, purple, blue and yellow.
The figure of the swan has a deep resonance for Jeff Koons. When he was nine years old, the young artist made his first swan in ceramic, working for more than a year and a half to achieve the perfect neck shape.
The Balloon Swan smooth, reflective surface symbolizes desire, acceptance, and perseverance. Its apparent lightness, alluding to the playfulness of childhood years, contrasts with the real heaviness of the work. According to Jeff Koons, Balloon Swan harmonizes sexual energy.
"If you look at it from the front, it's totem-like and masculine. If you look at it from the side, it becomes feminine. Balloon Swan is reminiscent of classical works, it defines beauty as sexual harmony."
