Balloon Rabbit Violet
by Jeff Koons
Made of highly reflective violet porcelain, the artwork by Jeff Koons Balloon Rabbit measures 21x29 cm. The sculpture comes with a certificate of authenticity and belongs to a limited edition of 999 pieces.
The original Jeff Koons Balloon Rabbit is a sculpture of about three tons, more than four meters high, made of mirror-polished stainless steel with a transparent color coating. It was created in five unique versions: blue, magenta, yellow, red, orange.
The subject belongs to the Celebration series, an eulogy to the innocence and liveliness of celebrations in childhood days. Following the auction sale of Jeff Koons' Balloon Dog at the highest price ever recorded for a living artist, the artist has reproduced the protagonists of Celebration - Venus, monkeys, rabbits, swans and small dogs - in limited editions with a reduced size.
The rabbit is reminiscent of the Easter decorations that adorned the gardens of south-central Pennsylvania, a childhood home for Jeff Koons. Balloon Rabbit symbolizes the parallelism between the generous intent of the inhabitants to offer beauty to passersby, and the artist's desire not to intimidate the viewer, engaging their senses and intellect. The use of mirrored surface allows the viewer to be reflected in the sculpture, seeing himself as an essential component of it.
